In animation, you can rely on several types 3D animation books to hone your skills. However, just like  not all movies are good, not all 3D animation books are good. 1. Animator’s Survival Kit by Richard Williams
In the 3D animation world, most animators consider Richard Williams a legend. If you do not already know, he directed the iconic movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit as well The Pink Panther. He is also an award‐winning director.

The director has received training from legendary animators such as Milt Kahl. His book provides people with the fundamental skills and techniques of animation and accompanying his explanations are several  different types of drawings and examples.

2. Character Animation Crash Course by Eric Goldberg
Do you know who is behind one of people’s favorite Disney classic Aladdin? Eric Goldberg was the animator  behind  the characters and the settings in the movie.  In his book, he has discussed his animation style in detail, giving examples, drawings, and wisdom to future animators.

3. The Illusion of Life by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas
The two animators have played an historical role in the creations of some of people’s favorite Disney classics. In their book, they share their several years of knowledge with people aspiring to be animators. Their book contains several amazing pictures and drawings. The book is a compilation of history, art, and  a “how to” guide all rolled into one.

4. The Art of Animal Drawing by Ken Hultgren
Walt Disney hired Ken Hultgren several years ago and put his talent to good use when they asked him to  become part of the team who gave us Bambi. When you read his book, you can clearly tell why Walt decided to hire him.

In one chapter, he breaks down his procedure for creating a drawing by showing people the method to get to the line of action from the beginning in order to create the composition of the animal. Animators who love drawing animals will find his book a useful and helpful tool.

5. Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair
Preston Blair has worked with MGM Studios, Disney, and Hanna Barbera. He remains as one of the best things to happen to animation. In fact, he is the first animator to develop and publish a bestselling manual, listing a variety of his animation techniques. Animators will find the hand‐drawn part of the  book extremely knowledgeable.

If you are aspiring animator who one day wants to work in the animation field, you should buy the aforementioned books.
